The bike looks very promising. The motor is essentially the same punchy 649cc parallel twin that debuted in the ER-6 a year ago and the styling shares that bike’s complex curves. But the important difference is the high-set riding position and long-travel suspension, which should help the Versys to be agile with a sporting bias for a wide range of road conditions, Ducati Multistrada style. We’re looking forward to riding this one.
No release date has been set, but expect late 2006 and a price of about £5,000. KAThis bike has been inevitable since 2001, when Kawasaki president Shinichi Morita promised a return to the company’s roots to try to stem sliding sales.
An unusual feature on the Sting-Ray Electric is the ability to choose the mode of power. The dual-drive system allows the rider to choose: pedal; electric; or both. Also unique to the Sting-Ray Electric design is the 24-Volt Ni-Cad rechargeable battery system with a “smart” on-board computer. The computer monitors motor heat, current output, battery condition, and battery discharge rate. It helps the bike act like a hybrid car, using less energy when the rider doesn’t need it, resulting in superior battery life. The throttle’s LED indicator indicates battery condition, and feedback from the computer denotes real-time battery power.
TVS Apache RTR FI: Strengthening its presence in the premium segment, TVS Motors Company Ltd today unveiled TVS Apache RTR FI motorcycle in the 160cc category priced at Rs 64,990 (ex-showroom Delhi). “With this launch, the company has given the common man an opportunity to experience high end technology in the performance segment, giving the rider a combination of an exhilarating ride performace with minimised emissions,” company Head (Marketing) H S Goindi said. The bike, which runs about 50-55 km on a litre of petrol, is powered by a 159.7cc fuel injected engine. It develops maximum power of 15.9 Ps at 8,500 rpm and has a peak torque of 13.1 Nm at 6,500 rpm.
